Thank you for visiting our website!

We're glad you found us!

Since 1923, the congregation of Temple Baptist Church has been worshiping and serving God together, ministering to families and individuals in our surrounding neighborhoods and the greater Wilmington area.

Though we're not a large church, we're trying to touch our community and our world with God's love. How?

Empowered by the Holy Spirit and guided by Scripture, we're striving to know Christ and to make Him known by being an authentic community of followers of Jesus Christ that embodies His presence to the world through our worship, our witness, and our way of life as His disciples. Through informal contacts, special events, and ongoing ministries, along with prayer and financial support for and involvement in local, national, and global missions, we work to share the good news of Jesus Christ through deeds of love and words of witness.

We also seek to minister to the wider community through a strategic partnership with the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina, which manages and operates our Christian Activity Center, located at 709 George Anderson Drive in Wilmington, as a branch facility. Alongside the offerings of the Midtown YMCA at Temple Baptist Activity Center, we host opportunities there for Christian formation and growth, as well as classes and conversations for those who want to explore the Bible and the Christian faith.

Our web site will help you learn more about us and our ministries, but worshiping with us will help you know us better. We'd love for you to join us for Bible study (our Sunday School has classes for all ages) and worship on Sunday mornings. When you worship with us, we believe that you will find:

  • An authentic, welcoming, caring community of disciples.
  • God-focused, Bible-based worship for the whole family that's both reverent and vibrant, rooted in the Bible and Christian history, drawing on the best of ancient, old, and new practices and elements.
  • Preaching and teaching that are centered on the Word of God and relatable to our lives.
  • Christian discipleship that takes the long look rather than offering quick fixes, focusing on genuine life transformation.
  • Ministries and opportunities that are both intergenerational and age-specific.

If you're looking for a church home, we'd love to have you worship with us at Temple! If you're not yet a follower of Jesus and you wonder what being a Christian is about, please click on The Gospel Story tab and watch the video there. If you have questions, please feel free to call us at 910-763-3351 or email us at info@templebaptist.us.

Our main campus is located at the corner of 18th and Market streets in the Historic District, where we gather for Bible study at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings, followed by worship at 11 a.m. We also have Wednesday evening activities beginning with supper at 5:30 p.m. (during the traditional school year), followed by prayer and Bible study for adults and activities for children at 6:15 p.m.

We hope to see you soon!

HURRICANE RELIEF MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

While Temple Baptist is not serving as an operations center for relief efforts, we are partnering with other churches and ministries in these efforts. Here are several ways our members can get involved in this important ministry.

  • NC Baptists on Mission (NC Baptist Men) have a feeding unit at the FIrst Baptist Church Activity Center on Independence Blvd. with the capability to provide 20,000 hot meals a day. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!!! If you can assist with this need, simply show up by 10:00 a.m. at the FBC Activity Center. You will be given instructions and a NCBM Disaster Relief T-shirt and the opportunity to serve.
  • If you need a hot meal or know of people who need a hot meal, you can go through the drive-thru and get as many meals as you need to deliver. Requests for large quantities should be given in advance. Serving times are 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
  • NCBM debris cleanup teams will be here Monday. Teams will be led by NCBM trained volunteers. If you can help with this effort, go to the FBC Activity Center by 9:00 a.m. each morning
  • The Harrelson Center downtown is serving as a collection point for needed items. You can go to the web site at harrelsoncenter.org to find a list of items that are needed. They are requesting that people not donate items that are not on the list, since they might end up not being used. They are not receiving used clothing. If you prefer, you can drop off items here at Temple and we will get them to the Harrelson Center.
  • Donations of gift cards to grocery stores, Wal-Mart, gas stations, etc. are encouraged and appreciated. These can be given to to the Harrelson Center for distribution in the community. Again, you can drop these off at Temple and we will get them to the Harrelson Center.
  • The Harrelson Center also needs volunteers to assist with moving donated items as they come in and go out for distribution.

Please continue to pray for our members and all those in our city, county, and region who have been impacted by Hurricane Florence and her flooding and aftermath, and for all those involved in rescue, relief, and recovery efforts.

SCHEDULE CHANGES DUE TO HURRICANE FLORENCE

With cleanup of the extensive damage progressing in some areas of our city and county, and the dangerous road conditions improving in many areas, as well as power crews making significant progress in restoring electrical service, we are resuming most of our regular weekly schedule:

  • We will have Sunday School and Worship Service this Sunday, September 23. If you can travel safely, we hope you will be here!
  • Our live radio broadcast of our Worship Service on WAAV 980 AM will resume this Sunday as well. If you are unable to be here, we hope you will be listening!
  • The church office will be open on our regualr schedule beginning Monday. However, at this time we are still without internet or telephone service. Calls to the church are being routed to the Administrative Assitant's personal cell phone, so if you need to speak to anyone else on staff, you will need to email or call/text the person you wish to speak to so they can access your message on their cell phone.

Keep safe and be in prayer for those who have been affected by this storm, whoever and wherever they may be, as well as those who are assisting in rescue, relief, cleanup, and recovery efforts. May God bless and keep you!

Experiencing God Sermon Series

Throughout September, October, and November, Pastor Mark Gaskins will be preaching a series of sermons in the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service based on the themes of Henry Blackaby and Claude King's Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the WIll of God Bible study.  The choir will also be presenting a number of pieces from Experiencing God: The Musical in these services. Join us for this special series as we are seeking God and His plans and direction for the future of our church.
